Good morning. Mark and Wayne have gone to the Ocala Forest, hunting, the last day of deer season. They have also been enjoying fishing together. It’s good to have a buddy.

As you all know from watching the news, this has been a stressful week in the United States of America. My friend Meredith wrote a Facebook post that rings true for me. I’d like to post it here ...

“Do you think there was a come-to-Jesus moment for Republicans as they were being hunted down by an angry, violent mob of “their” people? That maybe some things aren’t worth a vote?
And do you think there may be some regret on the part of a police officer who took a selfie with a rioter as his now deceased buddy was being hammered with a fire extinguisher?
And how about the top of the police chain and those who refused extra help before and during the attack? The ones who left a small force of officers to deal with this crowd for hours? What are they feeling in retrospect?
Do you think there will be any self reflection by the two men who hoisted their fellow “warrior” through a broken window, only to have her fall backwards after being shot as she was among the first to threaten the safety of our elected officials?
Will anyone at the White House watch party, be-bopping to loud music, congratulating each other, surrounded by screens displaying the chaos and violence that Trump (and they) called for take pause or responsibility? We know Donald won’t, although he will fear actually being held accountable for the first time in his slimy life.
Will those of us who watched at home in horror ever be the same after seeing our fellow Americans commit these heinous attacks on our democracy; knowing that some of our family, friends and neighbors not only discount our votes and voices, but hate us?
And how about our brothers and sisters of color knowing that so much of this is directed at them and supported by almost half of their country and endorsed by the POTUS? How differently they have been treated even in peaceful protests and just going about their daily lives.
We all have some soul searching to do. We have to figure out where we land in all of this - who we are at the very core of our being. And then we have to decide how to move forward. We have to ask ourselves and each other some hard questions, and tell the truth; maybe have to actively seek out the truth. Much growth can come from crisis if we let it and I hope we will.
I wish us all the best on our journeys. None of them will be alike. I pray we can do this with grace.
See you on the other side. 💜”

Yesterday, we picked up our Dodge at the dealership. This time the idiot light cost us $1337 in repairs. It all has to do with the emissions control system on the big diesel. Apparently, we should get another 25,000 miles before it needs another cleaning. Good heavens! It would cost $84,000 to replace the truck, so a repair sounds pretty minor. Ha ha ha ha. Well I guess we know where that stimulus check goes!

The next diatribe is from neighbor Lynn ...

“Just in case you wondered how I feel...no response needed.  Just want us to respect each other's point of view.

I used to think I was pretty much just a regular person, but I was born “white” into a two-parent household which now labels me as "Privileged", racist and responsible for slavery. I am a fiscal and moral conservative, which by today's standards, makes me a fascist because I plan & budget. But I now find out that I am not here because I earned it, but because I was "advantaged”.
I believe the Lord did not give me the heart to judge others. I am not a Muslim, which now labels me as an infidel. I believe in the 2nd Amendment, which makes me a threat to the liberals and I get labeled as being part of a militia. I am older than 30, making me a useless person with outdated ideas and values. I think and I reason, and I doubt much of what the "mainstream" media tells me, which makes me a "Right-wing conspiracy nut”.
I am proud of my heritage and our inclusive American culture, making me a xenophobe. I believe in hard work, fair play, and fair compensation according to each individual's merits, which today makes me a target of socialists and Antifa. I believe our system guarantees freedom of effort - not freedom of outcome or subsidies which must make me a borderline sociopath.
I believe in a strong defense and protection of America for and by all citizens, now making me a militant. I am proud of our flag, what it stands for and the many who died to let it fly, so I stand and salute during our National Anthem - so I must be a racist. I kneel only for my God, which makes me racist. I think that all lives matter, which labels me as a racist. I think the riots and destruction of property around our country are wrong and are just an excuse to push a political agenda, so I'm labeled a racist.
I support our law enforcement, servicemen and women, which labels me as a racist.
I question how fear is being used to control us during the COVID-19 pandemic and think the crisis is being used for political gain, so I'm labeled careless and non-sympathetic. Yet I know the virus is real.
Liberals have tried to make me feel bad about who I am! Based on everything above, some want me to believe I am a bad person; I'm not, I'm a good person who loves my God, my family and my country.”

🤷‍♀️ As Mark says ... for years we’ll be hearing about this coup attempt ... the French says it was an inside job. They’re on the right track.

Mark stocked up the fireplace at noon and we’ve been enjoying it ever since.  It never got out of the 60s today!

Friday, January 8, 2021

Good morning. I was up fairly early and started work on a large painting. Actually, I began it last week and decided today would be my day to work on it. Mark is nursing a sore knee, and relaxing more this week than usual.

We have no plans today, just staying home and staying alive. The Covid numbers are ridiculously high, and with three strains of it now that are more contagious, it’s a good thing to just stay home until we can safely get our vaccines.

My cousin’s grandsons should be out of hospital next week! Caz is looking forward to seeing cuddles with the twin boys.

They’re so cute!!!

Tonight, I was on zoom with a few of our Yaya girls. There seems to be 9 to 11 of us that join on zoom on Fridays. We had a good gab and discussed the current affairs. Michele Obama said it eloquently.

Thursday, January 7, 2021

Good morning y’all. It’s another day to watch the Trump train wreck unfold. Impeachment must be done to prevent this traitor from running again.

Mark and Wayne were out fishing last night and heard gunfire around the lake. Was it angry protesters? Our new President has work to do to restore faith in America. The grand old party of republicans is finished. They failed the American people miserably. Impeachment should have happened two years ago.

On a personal level, our neighbor Lynn is displaying her Trump 2020 sign on her front lawn. When I asked her why it was still there (before Christmas) she said ‘because it’s not over yet.”  We’ve been neighbors for 18 years ... and friends. What now that I see her in another light? (After I wrote this she finally took the sign down!)

Here’s a fun picture ...

Shorty Hot Pants with his daddy ... as the shirt says. Cute!

So, tonight was our by monthly get together with a few of the neighbors. This time, it was at Lynn ‘s, outside by her fire box. Mark took over the wood, got the fire started and Lynn had chairs set up around. Rose, Jim, Markymark, Lani, Pat and Ken were there as well. Rose brought up the coup attempt yesterday at the capital building and Lynn snapped. Seriously, she snapped. She yelled that we don’t talk about politics in this group. I think it’s going to be a good thing that she moves to another neighborhood. Things have changed drastically with her mental state. No one stayed any more than an hour and Mark and I were left to watch the fire and help tidy up. 🙄

So that’s it for tonight. More tomorrow.

Wednesday, January 6, 2021

Well, this gorgeous sunny day went to hell in a handbasket didn’t it? I’m speechless. We all knew this was coming of course, because Trump is a traitor.

Mark and Wayne have gone fishing this afternoon and LaDonna is coming over after her doctors appointment. We are going to hang out and eat pizza and drink wine. It’s the best we can do on this crazy day.

Time will tell what unfolds today. Ta ta till tomorrow.

Tuesday, January 5, 2021

Good afternoon. Both Mark and I had dental appointments today. Mine was at 8:50, and I had two crowns done on the lower front of my mouth! Youch. It was a long appointment with some sort of plastic to hold my jaw open; grueling it was. Anyway, I’m happy to have temporary crowns on an an appointment to go in three weeks for the permanent one.

Mark finished up his crown, and had the permanent one cemented on.

Back on the homefront, we both had a rest this afternoon and then I finished my happy owl art project. This entire page is done in watercolor and was tons of fun. Watercolor is very new to me, and I really was afraid of trying it.

So Mark and I have been watching a show called “Lilyhammer” on Netflix, and it’s pretty funny. It’s only two seasons long but we hope it will be continued. Mark has been icing his knee as he seems to have twisted it sometime in the last few days and it has been bothering him. It’s now 11 o’clock and it’s just Ms. B and me. The boys have gone to bed already.

Monday, January 4, 2021

Good afternoon. I was up at six and working on my first official painting in the art course. I certainly could’ve spent more time on it, but there’s already another lesson sent to me. Giddyup. Ha ha ha ha.

Here it is…

So here’s the story about the project. The heart lesson was called “lightness of spirit.” This young lady has a crown of natural leaves trimmed in gold. She is a warrior of goodness. Well, at least this is my take on the instructions. She has her compass and her pet Raven.

By the time I finished this Mark had already taken the dogs for a long golf cart ride and headed off to Lowe’s for some concrete to work on his seawall project. I have a few minutes to start the blog, sit with the doggies and watch the next video for my 3rd art project. It is fun. I’m enjoying it.

After dinner, we went to KimBob’s for drinks on their lanai. It was pretty chilly and we were home by 10 o’clock. We’re going to have an overnight low in the 40s. Anyway, it was the first time we’ve had a chance to be with them since early December. It was lots of fun to catch up.

That’s it for today. 😍

Sunday, January 3, 2021

Good evening. We started with a little rain this morning here in Central Florida but by noon it was sunny and beautiful with a high in the low 70s. Yes, another cold front has come through.

This is my cheery little picture that starts out the art course for this year. No, it’s nothing like the instructor did, but that’s the point. You have to develop your own style as you go along. There were more things I wanted to do on this but I had to get onto the next painting before we get another lesson tomorrow. Busy busy! The second painting is on the easel now, needing another two or three hours before it’s finished.

Mark did a great job today by cleaning our mailbox and painting the flag red. It came out looking like new after a little car polish. Good deal.

We walked the doggies tonight and Pat came out to say hello. They were unable to get their vaccines thus far and have decided, like us, to wait a couple of weeks until things quiet down.

Now, it’s front porch sitting while Mark has a cigar and the dogs watch for birds, squirrels or whatever. Happy days.

The lantern from Bonnie & Roger at Christmas is on the porch table. It’s so sweet.
