Wednesday, August 30, 2023

Good morning. Our weather radio focus at 4 o’clock with a warning for another county. Overnight we had very light rain, and no wind. We were far enough away from Idahlia to have no effects one of our spots we camped out, Cedar key was hit bad. We could see the stop sign in the waves that is by the marina. The area where the hurricane went in as a category four was, fortunately, sparsely populated. But of course, that means a lot of trees are down and a lot of animals probably injured. We are planning to stay home today waiting on a delivery from city furniture for Sue and Wayne.

Our little squirrel houseguest survived the night. We will see later today if he is strong enough to be reunited with his mother. Yesterday, she didn’t seem interested when Mark took the little guy out there she was laying in the palm tree relaxing. I would’ve thought, if it is his mother, that she would be chittering at us.  πŸ€·‍♀️

So this is how wee Beau sleeps …

and with his favorite toy. 🐾πŸ₯°

What city furniture arrived with the two tables already assembled. And the beautiful so we signed off on them and we’ll take them to Sue & Wayne’s house tomorrow!

After that, we tried to feed our little squirrel, but he wasn’t interested. So, we fed the Scotty’s and then went bowling for a couple of hours. It was just practice for Mark and me. The place was quite busy with I suppose schools having been closed today.

That’s it for today! Stay safe everyone!

Good evening. It’s going on 11 o’clock Idalia time in Central Florida. It’s totally quiet here despite a hurricane 100 miles to the west of us. We have no wind at the moment, and no rain. We send good vibrations to those on the big Bend area of Florida. Stay safe.

Today, as we were getting out of the pool, Mark noticed a baby squirrel, partially hiding under a tarp. He picked him up and the poor weak guy was very lethargic. The little guy is spending the night in a crate in our garage. It sounds cruel, but he has an actual squirrel nest which he has burrowed into. He also has peanut butter on a spoon and fresh water and a couple of pieces of broccoli. We tried to reunite him with what we thought was his mother, but she made no effort to come near him. So, he is in out of the storm for tonight.

Cute eh? 🐾πŸ₯°

Thursday, August 24, 2023

Good evening! It’s been a bright beautiful day here in Central Florida! Mark and the guys spent the morning hiking in the woods til 1 o’clock. I was home puttering around waiting for RTG furniture delivery.

Mark jumped in the swimspa when he got home and our furniture delivery was minutes later. I’d ordered white glove delivery and it was great! So, that done, we caught up on odds ‘n ends!

Last Sunday, it seems I hurt my right wrist, actually, my entire arm, moving around some furniture and carpeting at home. This was all in preparation for the new furniture that arrived today. Anyway, I bowled on Monday because that’s what warriors do … ha ha. so Monday night, I was in agony. I couldn’t get the pain under control, and my arm was throbbing. Anyhow, with a lot of ice and Advil, I got through it. I didn’t bowl on Wednesday as we had planned. We took a few pictures at the K’s house for the realtor and put together a lamp that Sue had ordered. Anyway, Kris loaned me a carpal tunnel wrist brace that he had prior to his surgery. That, and some spray lidocaine seems to have helped me turn the corner. Mark wants to bowl tomorrow, but I will just be a spectator until Monday’s league game.

So we watched a good movie tonight called “the Lincoln lawyer” which brother-in-law Kris recommended. It was great, and we are going to start watching the series on Netflix.

That’s it for today.

Sunday, August 20, 2023

Hey all y’all … it’s been an interesting few days. First off, Central Florida has cooled down from the high 90’s a week ago to the 80’s! Yeah, we’re loving it even with the rainy weather. πŸ₯°

Thursday the K’s living room furniture was delivered and everything was good! Easy peasy. Well … yesterday was our living room furniture delivery and nothing went according to plan. πŸ™„

Macy’s white glove service was terrific! The problem was our sales agent ordered the left and right ends of the sectional reversed. The poor guys had it unloaded and uncrated of course before the problem was evident. So, we sent it back! It would have been months before we had a complete, useable place to sit.

Next was City Furniture delivering coffee and end tables for the K’s. Mark opened the boxes, assembled them and discovered problems with both tables. (it just wasn’t a good day for deliveries.) 😬 They’ll have to be replaced.

Next, we heard news of a long lost friend from Canada. Robert Bruce McPhail was a member of Winnipeg’s RMYC where my family met him. Bruce’s parents were deceased and he, along with his friend Bob Nichols commissioned a steel boat through Purvis in Riverton. The LaTinosa arrived a year later at the Yacht Club docks. There the big tub was hauled out and drydocked for Bruce to complete. He worked on it, but the boat never hit the water again! It was sad as this was a project Bruce and his late father dreamed of doing after seeing the original in Italy. So, we knew Bruce in both Canada and the USA.  Our family immigrated in the late 70’s to Florida. Bruce and Bob soon bought a condo building in Broward County just blocks from our family home. People come and go in our lives. Over the years I’ve wondered where Bruce was. Bob Nichols passed away about 1990 we’d heard.

Then, a cold case from Florida hits the news in Canada and a mutual friend spots it. (It was a gruesome death … here’s the story if you want to read it.)

Thursday, August 17, 2023

Good morning. It’s a little overcast this morning with the sun peeking through and 77°F. Last night we had torrential rains which we really needed. Everything feels so fresh this morning. We are on the way to the villages to do a little yard maintenance at Sue and Wayne’s houses.

Tomorrow is bowling, just “fun bowl” and then on Saturday we get our new furniture delivery. This week has been sent spent moving furniture from one room to the other, and then last night turning the carpet. There’s always an adventure at our place.

The K’s new home is coming together nicely!

I just had a text from Scott. He had his right knee replaced today and has been up walking and is going home tomorrow! Congratulations Scott …

Just this summer we’ve had so many friends get knee replacements … Rick, Bonnie, Steve and Scott! The baby boomers are getting reboots. πŸ˜‚

Monday, August 14, 2023

Good morning. It’s a bright beautiful sunshiny day here in central Florida. Yes, it is the dog days of summer. I have figured out why it is called that. Because even the dogs don’t want to go out for a walk when it’s this hot. Ha ha ha. Anyway, it’s in the 80s this morning but going to cool down by Thursday currently. It won’t be by much but at least it won’t hit the 90s.

Today is bowling and the team we are going against is Lynn and Steve and their friends Carl and Valerie. It’ll be fun, and we hope to win all four games.

Diane and Kris are still in a muddle at their house. They are having the back porch converted to a TV room. Of course the floor had to be raised. Otherwise, life is good for them.

From a friend …

As a joke, my brother used to hang a pair of panty hose over his fireplace at Christmas.
He said all he wanted was for Santa to fill them. What they say about Santa checking the list twice must be true because every Christmas morning, although Jay’s kids’ stockings were overflowed, his poor pantyhose hung sadly empty.
One year I decided to make his dream come true. I put on sunglasses and went in search of an inflatable love doll. They don’t sell those things at Wal-Mart. I had to go to an adult bookstore downtown.
If you’ve never been in an X-rated store, don’t go. You’ll only confuse yourself. I was there an hour saying things like, “What does this do?” “You’re kidding me!” “Who would buy that?”
Finally, I made it to the inflatable doll section. I wanted to buy a standard, uncomplicated doll. One that could also substitute as a passenger in my truck so I could use the carpool lane during rush hour.
Finding what I wanted was difficult. Love dolls come in many different models. The top of the line, according to the side of the box, could do things I’d only seen in a book on animal husbandry.
I settled for ‘Lovable Louise.” She was at the bottom of the price scale. To call Louise a “doll” took a huge leap of imagination.
On Christmas Eve, with the help of an old bicycle pump, Louise came to life. My sister-in-law was in on the plan and let me in during the wee morning hours, long after Santa had come and gone, I filled the dangling pantyhose with Louise’s pliant legs and bottom. I also ate some cookies and drank what remained of a glass of milk on a nearby tray. I went home, and giggled for a couple of hours.
The next morning my brother called to say that Santa had been to his house and left a present that had made him VERY happy but had left the dog confused. She would bark, start to walk away, then come back and bark some more.
We all agreed that Louise should remain in her panty hose so the rest of the family could admire her when they came over for the traditional Christmas dinner.
My grandmother noticed Louise the moment she walked in the door.
“What the hell is that?” she asked.
My brother quickly explained, “It’s a doll.”
“Who would play with something like that?” Granny snapped. I had several candidates in mind, but kept my mouth shut.
“Where are her clothes?” Granny continued.
“Boy, that turkey sure smells nice, Gran,” Jay said, trying to steer her into the dining room. But Granny was relentless.
“Why doesn’t she have any teeth?”
Again, I could have answered, but why would I? It was Christmas and no one wanted to ride in the back of the ambulance saying, ”Hang on Granny! Hang on!”
My grandfather, a delightful old man with poor eyesight, sidled up to me and said, ” Hey, who’s the naked gal by the fireplace?”
I told him she was Jay’s friend.
A few minutes later I noticed Grandpa by the mantel, talking to Louise. Not just talking, but actually flirting. It was then that we realized this might be Grandpa’s last Christmas at home.
The dinner went well. We made the usual small talk about who had died, who was dying, and who should be killed, when suddenly Louise made a noise that sounded a lot like my father in the bathroom in the morning. Then she lurched from the panty hose, flew around the room twice, and fell in a heap in front of the sofa.
The dog screamed. I passed cranberry sauce through my nose, and Grandpa ran across the room, fell to his knees, and began administering mouth to mouth resuscitation. My brother fell back over his chair and wet his pants. Granny threw down her napkin, stomped out of the room, and sat in the car.
It was indeed a Christmas to treasure and remember
Later in my brother’s garage, we conducted a thorough examination and found the cause of Louise’s collapse. We discovered that Louise had suffered from a hot ember to the back of her right thigh. Fortunately, thanks to a wonder drug called gorilla tape, we restored her to perfect health.
Louise went on to star in several bachelor party movies. I think Grandpa still calls her whenever he can get out of the house.
πŸ˜„πŸ˜„
I hope that every time you see "Stockings hung by the chimney with care" you think of me and this amusing story πŸ™‚

Friday, August 11, 2023

Good morning! It’s been a week of nothing much going on except the dog days of summer! It’s frickin’ hot! On the good side, no tropical storms! Orlando has been the hottest since 1987! We’ve had it 98F on our front porch this week … never before in our 23+ years of owning in Central Florida. Rain is forecast next week 🀞.

Granddaughter Hailey celebrated her 16th birthday πŸ₯³ earlier this week with a trip to Key West with the family. She’s driving, beginner’s permit, and starts back with homeschooling next week.

That’s Hailey on my knee! Time flies.

We’ve been bowling very well lately and won all 4 games against the #1 team last Monday. Today’s fun bowl and practice with our friends. (RanDawn can’t make it today, washer repair scheduled.)

Sue & Wayne hosted a dinner party last night at their cottage. The table was laid nicely in the updated porch! Looks great!

The renovation was a huge success! It looks great!

That’s all the news for now, stay cool.

Sunday, August 6, 2023

Good Sunday evening. It’s been a quiet weekend for us except for dinner out with KimBob yesterday. We caught up on their news and had some giggles.

If you’ve watched any news you’ll be aware of the indictments of a former leader … enjoy!

“That Trump will be tried for his coup attempt is not a violation of his rights. It is a fulfillment of his rights. It is the grace of the American republic. In other systems, when your coup attempt fails, what follows is not a trial.”

Dear Disgraced Indicted-Felon Man-Baby Ex-President:

This week you will be arrested, fingerprinted and arraigned for a record fourth time in just four months for serious crimes committed in four separate states, with all four arrests being for four very different and distinct crimes.

That’s the part that caught my eye — your serial crime spree included no repetition of the same crime. It was a new crime each time, across four state lines. It’s not like you robbed four banks in four states or shot four people dead in the middle of four different 5th Avenues (there are 5th Avenues also in Seattle, San Diego, Naples, FL and Anchorage, Alaska).

One crime involved hush money. Another, the theft of top secret national security documents. This week’s indictment will be for your brazen attempt to stuff the ballot box in Fulton County, GA, with 11,780 fake votes for yourself (one more than you actually needed!).

And, of course, the big one from last week: your violent failed attempt to stage a coup that cost 9 people their lives (5 of them cops, but what do you care, you criminal sack of shit).

I’ve never seen anything like this, not even in a mob movie. The diversity of your crimes, how you never repeat yourself — how does one become a recidivist before they’ve actually served a single prison term? Breathtaking. Yes, most of your crimes have the same motive — to enrich yourself and to rule over us. But, still — breathtaking

Yet, it got me thinking — you are so lucky to be an American! Acclaimed Yale history professor (and your co-star in Fahrenheit 11/9), Timothy Snyder, put it so chillingly well this past Thursday as you were being fingerprinted in the D.C. Federal Court. Referring to your arrogant pouting that your “rights” have been violated, that you are being “persecuted,” that you are a “victim” of a system stacked against you, arrested by an “illegitimate president” whom you “defeated,” Professor Snyder had this to say:

“That Trump will be tried for his coup attempt is not a violation of his rights. It is a fulfillment of his rights. It is the graceof the American republic. In other systems, when your coup attempt fails, what follows is not a trial.”

Yes, Mr. Ex-President, in other countries, many of whom you admire, instead of an indictment and a fair trail, you’d be handed a blindfold, a piece of rope and a stake they’d tie you to. The (ironic) hood over your head, optional.

Then someone would shout “FIRE!!” (no, not “you’re fired!” — “FIRE!!”), and the sound of the barrage from a dozen rifles would end your treason. Thank God that will not happen. All violence is abhorrent even against those who inflict it on others. You, sir, live in the United States of America and we do not execute white billionaires. At least give us that.

I want you to live. I want our younger generation to see you go through all four trials, to learn just how close we came to losing it all, a 247-year experiment in Democracy that meant well, but was never fully finished.

It’s enough for me for now that you will never be president again, that you will indeed serve prison time (if you had committed just one crime, because *remarkably* you’d be deemed a “first-time offender,” that would’ve been probation. But four separate felonies? Sorry, Don Donald, you’re going up the river.)

In the meantime, quit your whining about being a victim. The victims were the thousands of Black families you and your racist father refused to rent apartments to in Queens and Brooklyn for decades. You’re not the victim — you’re the perp.  And — you’re an American! That alone spares you from the hangman’s noose. As it should. Here’s to a speedy trial by a jury of your peers in four amazing American cities where the majority of the population happens not to be white.

Good afternoon! It’s been another busy few days. Today, our Oklahoma pal Bonnie had knee replacement surgery and aced it. Ice ice ice and painkillers will get you over the hump! Good luck to Roger as he takes over the household duties for awhile. 🐾😍

Yesterday we put an A/C unit into the K’s garage at the new house. It’s working fine! After a few hours at The Villages, we went home and unloaded the tools, fed the  kids then … bowling! It was just practice for the two of us and supper out. I’d had issues bowling on Monday … darn ball wouldn’t hook. So …

This is the first soaking in hot water and Dawn. I did numerous buckets with soap rubbed into the surface …

now that’s oil from the lanes working out of my ball. A good rinse and drying for a few days and it handled well again. ✅

Lynne and her cousin Carol visited at the cottage for a couple of nights.

Looking great ladies!

It was a gorgeous day, 80F. Enjoy!

Tonight is Yaya’s at Rose’s house. (Mark is meeting up with Steve and Jim for a Pub dinner. Guya’s maybe starting again?)
